Now Planning Fall Co-op 2009!
Would you like to join us for a weekly co-op in the Fall? Here are some FAQ's!
When will co-op be held? Co-op will be tentatively scheduled for Mondays. We will have a 6 week session starting in October.
What ages? Co-op is for all ages.
How does it work? Every family that commits to co-op will be expected to teach or supervise 1 class. Classes will be divided into age ranges: Nursery, 4-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years and Teens. There will be 2-4 class periods, depending on participation we will start with 2 morning and possibly add 2 in the afternoon with a lunch break between.
I'm new to homeschooling and I'm not sure I'm confident enough to teach. Can I still join? We are a co-op and in order to have classes for each age, we have to have teachers. However, we don't have high expectations! There are many ways you can participate. If you are new, choose an easy class to prepare. For example, a Games class, maybe you bring board games, playing a new one each week and teaching the kids the rules, divide them into groups and let them play! We don't expect a class on Rocket Science (although if you offer it, I bet our Teens would love it!). Co-op is enrichment and a time for our kids to get to know each other and have fun doing some planned activities.
I don't have any children over 3, can I still participate? Absolutely! If you know you are a homeschooler and want to get to know other homeschoolers, co-op is a great way to do it! If you have small children, you will be expected to help in the nursery during co-op as your teaching commitment, unless of course you'd like to teach another class. We welcome you to share your gifts with any age you feel comfortable with!
I'm not sure what to teach, any ideas? There are tons of classes that could work in a co-op. If you have a special gift or interest, that's always a great place to start. Here are some ideas:
*Games * Crafts * Scrapbooking * Creative Movement * Dance * Yoga * Cooking * Math Games * Kitchen Science * Art * Fun With Paint * Story of the World * Five In A Row * Fairy Tale Fun * Sewing * Knitting * Crochet * Chess* Music * And So Much More... Anything that could be used as a Unit Study would also be a great co-op class!
What if we can't do all day? Co-op can be attended in any capacity that works for your family, whether it be 1 class, 2 classes or all 4. You are only expected to teach once. Any other time you decide to stay for, you will be expected to help out other teachers, and will be assigned housekeeping duties.
What does it cost? Each family will pay a reasonable fee to cover building use. Each class will determine if they will need a supply fee. No class can charge more than a $5 supply fee per child and will be urged to keep costs as low as possible. Your family will only pay the supply fees for the classes you sign up for.
How do I sign up? Email Amissa at foodietx@yahoo.com and state your interest. She will contact you to arrange more information and to help plan details. There will be a registration day before the fall session. Registration forms will be posted here as we get nearer to that day.
